Matthew G. McKinney (Orlando - Florida) is a United States registered patent attorney and an experienced and licensed professional engineer (P.E.). Mr. McKinney is a graduate of the University of South Florida (Tampa, Florida) holding Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in engineering and he is pursuing a Master of Science degree in physics. His background includes the study of semiconductors, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, hydraulics, mechanics, and structures. Mr. McKinney is a member of the American Institute of Physics and the Order of the Engineer. He is also a law graduate from the Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law located in Macon, Georgia.
Mr. McKinney has used his engineering and physics background in prosecuting an assortment of mechanical, biomedical, software, and electrical hardware patent applications for M.D.s, engineering firms, technology companies and individual inventors. Mr. McKinney meets regularly with current clients to review the progress of a patent application as well as meeting with potential clients to discuss the benefits of obtaining patent protection for an invention. Mr. McKinney has prosecuted trademarks often in conjunction with filing a patent application for a client.
His legal experience includes litigating complex commercial disputes and patent, trademark and copyright actions.
Mr. McKinney is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Orange County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Florida state courts.
